Web · Rainbow Skylight S.A.

A site about light, built out of large photography, transparency and layers: the product's own properties as a layout.

The Rainbow Skylight home page on an iMac on a white desk with a coffee cup and a plant. A wide photograph of a barrel-vaulted glass roof fills the hero, with the line "The leading specialist skylight manufacturing company in Southern Africa" set over a translucent white panel.

Rainbow Skylight sells light and architecture, so the site was designed around those two things rather than around a product list. The skylights and the light they let in are the selling point, so they are made the focal point: large photographs, in places running the full span of a row. That same size is what makes the pages feel spacious, and the generous whitespace around them is the other half of it.

Transparency and layered elements are used throughout to point at what the product actually is: clear or translucent glazing, made of materials that are themselves layered and multi-faceted. A cold blue, a warm orange and a neutral white hint at sunset and sunrise without ever being literal about it.

Aktiv Grotesk carries the precise, sleek, modern half of the impression. Minion Pro is set against it for the classic, enduring, refined half.
