An experiment in animation, colour and lighting. The idea came from the geographical changes a planet goes through as its segments move and overlap, making new forms, patterns and shapes as they go. Rendered with Blender Cycles.
The whole thing is one setup seen four ways. The geometry does not change between frames. The crust flows and the crystals break through it in the same places. What changes is the material and the colour of the ground behind it, so the four read as four planets and are actually four finishes of one.
On the video. The original post embedded the animation from YouTube. This page does not: an embed loads a third-party player, sets cookies and hands the visitor’s IP to another company before they have decided to press play, which is exactly the cost that self-hosting the site’s fonts removed. The stills are what the archive holds at full quality, so the stills are what is here. If a short loop is ever exported from the original file it will be self-hosted alongside them, with no third party involved.
